Geoffry Lottering

About Me.

Geoffrey Lottering is a drummer whose career is defined by precision, passion, and performance. Having first taken up the drums at the age of six, his journey has been shaped by both tradition and innovation, earning him a respected place in South Africa’s music scene.
​
A proud Eastern Cape musician, Geoffrey holds a BMus Honours degree from the University of Fort Hare, where he studied under the legendary Dr. Nduduzo Makhathini and was mentored by celebrated drummers Ayanda Sikade and the late Sisa Sopazi.
​
He has performed alongside some of South Africa’s most renowned jazz musicians, including Andile Yenana, McCoy Mrubata, Dumza Maswana, Phumlani Mtiti, Sakhile Simani, and UK-based Adam Glasser. His festival appearances include the National Arts Festival, SAJE Festival, Umtiza Arts Festival, and the Smart City Festival.

In addition to jazz, Geoffrey is an accomplished theatre musician, having performed in acclaimed productions such as Cinderella, The Magic of Motown, and BEAT IT!, staged in both East London and Cape Town.

Beyond the stage, Geoffrey is a dedicated educator, serving as a full-time music teacher at Selborne Primary School, where he teaches drums, marimba, and creative arts. He is also the drummer for the Buffalo City Big Band and percussionist for the DEVO Chamber Orchestra, continuing to balance performance with mentorship and musical growth.
